Twardy 2.0 Devlog #4

After less than I month, I have released the biggest update yet for Twardy 2.0. Update 0.0.4 has added crucial and essential features to the game. Like the last devlog, you stick to the end, I will announce what the next update will be. Thank you so much for supporting Twardy 2.0.

The largest thing that has been added is the new zones outside the main map. They are the Offmap, the Beyondmap, and the Nu11 Z0N3. The Offmap is the smallest, being 48,000 pixels in length, while the biggest is the Nu11 Z0N3 being 768,000,000 pixels in length. For comparison, the main map is only 12,000 pixels long! I estimated that it will take the player 25 real life days to reach beyond the Nu11 Z0N3, which is where you instantly die.

The Beyondmap and Nu11 Z0N3 both have their own special gimmick. In the Beyondmap, Mark slowly takes 1 tenth (0.1) to 1 ten-thousandth (0.0001) damage every frame. Yes, you heard that right. EVERY FRAME. The Nu11 Z0N3's gimmick is that it has a special song called "What's It Like Outside?", and it has a blurry effect.

Another giant feature in the update is the brand-new building feature. When Mark collects any type of wood (more on that later), you can right-click and a preview of a plank will follow your mouse. When you press the B key on your keyboard, a plank will show up in the spot of the preview. You can use these planks to block enemies from you. When you punch planks, they disappear.

Speaking of punching, there has been an overhaul to the punching mechanic. You now punch both what Mark is colliding with and what the mouse is colliding with. I can't tell if this was a nerf or a buff to punching, so I'll let you decide.

There is now a new song in the game: "Tapping Feet"! You can listen to it both in the game and in the Twardy 2.0 OST on Newgrounds.

Mark's Idle animation now changes if you have you health at 3 or less. In this new idle animation, Mark doesn't blink and he flashes red frequently. This is supposed to be a low-health indicator for when you are not paying attention to Mark's current health.

In 0.0.4, trees now have way more variation than they had in the previous devlog. Trees now can spawn as 1 of 3 types: Oak, Spruce, and Birch. Trees can also appear thick or thin or tall or short. Additionally, trees now drop wood when punched. Oak trees have a special Oak Apple variant where they drop both oak wood and apples.

There are also tiny but noticeable features added in 0.0.4, like how Mark now makes footstep sounds whenever he walks and there is now rain.

Update 0.0.4 has added the first passive animal in Twardy 2.0: the Woolly Walker! Woolly Walkers can either have white, grey or black fur. They drop Woolly Walker Meat that can be used to heal Mark when right-clicked. (Speaking of right-clicking, apples and pears can also heal Mark when right-clicked in the inventory.)

There are now more settings in Twardy 2.0: 2 volume sliders for Music and SFX, a fullscreen toggler, and a button that takes you back to the main menu. More settings will be added in future updates.

If you have watched the whole video through or made it to the end of the devlog post, good job. Before the outro, I just wanted to say that Twardy 2.0 is transitioning to monthly updates at least till the end of the year. I set a deadline so that all monthly updates should be released by the sunday before the last day of the month. The first 2 monthly updates (0.0.5 and 0.0.6) will be grouped as a 2 part update for improvements and optimizations. I will reveal more information about the next monthly updates in the next Twardy 2.0 State Of The Game devlog post towards the end of the month.

0.0.4 is the last stepping stone for Twardy 2.0 to grow majorly from it's original point. Thanks for supporting, and remember to stay tuned for new Twardy 2.0 information!

Great devlog, I've got to say I consider it a buff to the punching! Maybe a little op but still fun, time to enjoy it while it's there!
