Twardy 2 Talks: How I Accidentally Made 2 Combat Updates Without Realizing It
In game development, you can sometimes do things you don't even realize you're doing until you come close to completing it. Well, that exact case happened to me. As the June 2025 monthly update (0.0.5) comes close to releasing, I realized something I didn't think of before: OVER THE PAST 2 MONTHS, I'VE SOMEHOW MADE 2 COMBAT UPDATES TO THE GAME WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT!
When I say that I "hadn't realized it," I mean that I hadn't realized I'd made 2 major combat updates. Of course, I knew that I implemented combat updates, but I didn't realize that they were less minor and more major features to the updates they were in than I thought.
Since I've been rambling that I've made important combat updates since the beginning of this post, you should know what exactly those updates are. Let's start out with the first combat update: 0.0.4.
...there has been an overhaul to the punching mechanic. You now punch both what Mark is colliding with and what the mouse is colliding with. I can't tell if this was a nerf or a buff to punching, so I'll let you decide.
That is what I said in the 4th Twardy 2.0 devlog. Now that I'm looking back at it, I'm surprised that I didn't realize how big of a change this was in the game at the time. Also, I now think that allowing Mark to punch what the mouse is colliding with is neither a nerf nor a buff; instead, it's an improvement.
Since I am naming updates now, I honestly would've named this the "Gamer's Dream" update. The update expands the game map (so players can explore more), added wood, protection, food, and better combat; just what a gamer wants (at least from what I know).
Now the second combat update is from the upcoming version 0.0.5 (that has a name I shall not mention until June 18th. And no, it is not "Combat Update 2").
Punching now has a cooldown, and holding down the right mouse button will no longer spam punches, making combat more controlled.
The fact that I said that in the devlog post for Screenshot 20250602160654 (0.0.5) and I STILL did not realize that I made a major combat update is a little concerning. This ONE sentence of text is basically the ENTIRE 1.9 combat update for Minecraft, (well, not really,) and I just put it in a paragraph with other random features that probably deserved their own paragraphs also. (Shame on you, me. SHAME!)
...Welp, there you have it. If you want to have more episodes of the Twardy 2 Talks podcast or just more Twardy 2.0 news on Youtube, please consider leaving a like and subscribing to my Youtube channel and actually read the devlogs. Thanks for listening!
